Gummies or Tablets? Which Delivers Better Vitamin Absorption?

Gummies or Tablets? Which Delivers Better Vitamin Absorption?

Let’s face it: taking your daily vitamins can sometimes feel like a bit of a chore, especially when you’re taking lots alongside one another—choking them back with a large glass of water in hand.

Thankfully, the vitamin market has come leaps and bounds in recent years, with a wide array of formats for you to choose from—pills, capsules, powders, liquids, and, of course, our favourite—gummies. The benefits of taking gummies over pills are pretty obvious; they’re delicious and can easily be built into your daily routine as a treat rather than a chore. A lovely part of your well-balanced self-care routine.

But beyond taste alone… are gummies really the better option to choose?

Gummies vs. Traditional Pills

Pills and capsules are the traditional way to get your supplements and vitamins in. They can be hard to swallow, a pain to take (especially when there’s more than one), and can smell quite bad at times too. Taking tablets, however, is often just another part of adulting we’ve got to get on with.

Taste and how you take them isn’t the only thing to think about when weighing up pills vs. gummies. How your body absorbs the active ingredients inside is another important factor.

About Vitamin Absorption

When it comes to absorption, the format of your vitamins can make a big difference. Gummies, for example, are often easier for your body to break down because they’re designed to dissolve quickly in your digestive system.

This can help your body absorb the active ingredients more efficiently than pills, which may take longer to dissolve—or worse, pass through your system without being fully absorbed. We refer to this speed and extent of absorption as bioavailability—how quickly and well your body can absorb and use a nutrient or substance.

Gummies are often created with this bioavailability in mind, making them an effective and convenient choice for many.

An Interesting Study on Vitamin D Absorption

There have been multiple studies on gummies vs. pills and the efficacy of absorption. One study, in particular, compared vitamin D gummies to vitamin D pills and compared the results. The findings showed that vitamin D in its gummy form had much stronger effects, showing significantly higher bioavailability than tablet form. This study is listed in the National Library of Medicine and can be found here.

This was due to the gummies’ formulation (as mentioned earlier) and because the absorption of the gummies starts in the mouth, right from the first chew. The lining of the mouth can absorb nutrients; we refer to this as buccal absorption. As the gummy mixes with saliva, it dissolves and is absorbed through the tissue lining the mouth; from here, it then moves into the bloodstream. Tablets, on the other hand, are taken whole and skip this crucial step.

This study was conducted over three months, giving the participants enough time to restore any vitamin deficiencies and see proper results. That’s why building a vitamin routine you can keep up with is key to seeing the benefits.

Consistency Yields Results: Routine Matters

Consistency is the key to getting results with any supplement regimen. You need to take them for weeks and even months if you’re especially low in certain nutrients to feel the true benefits. Don’t get impatient if you don’t notice instant results; your body needs time to replenish and recover.

This is why choosing a supplement you enjoy is crucial! If you skip days or forget to take your vitamins because they’re unpleasant, it only prolongs your journey. Gummies make life so much easier—no more struggling with pills, waiting 30 minutes after eating or hunting for water in the middle of the night. You can take them literally anywhere!

Are all Gummies the Same? What to Look for

There are many gummies on the market for you to choose from. The first step is to choose one that aligns with your lifestyle and values—whether you’re looking for something vegan, halal, gelatin-free, cruelty-free or made with you and our planet in mind.

Unfortunately, many vitamins on the market use synthetic ingredients that can block the body’s ability to absorb nutrients efficiently. Natural ingredients are always better! These are better absorbed, recognised and utilised by our bodies.

To get the most out of your vitamins, check for natural ingredients. Choose a formula that boasts high-quality, traceable ingredients made in the UK and third-party lab tested for potency and purity. Always check the website and the pack.

Novomins gummies contain all-natural ingredients and are third-party tested. Our gummies are expertly formulated by scientists and nutritionists. Whatever your need, we have a gummy for it.
